Bonus!!! Fragmente din jurnalul intim:

I like punk rock. I like girls with weird eyes. I like drugs. (But my Body And mind won’t allow me to take them). I like passion. I like playing my cards wrong. I like vinyl. I like to feel guilty for being a white, American male. I love to sleep. I like to taunt small, barking dogs in parked cars. I like to make people feel happy and superior in their reaction towards my appearance. I like to have strong opinions with nothing to back them up with besides my primal sincerity. I like sincerity. I lack sincerity … I like to complain and do nothing to make things better. I like to blame my parents generation for coming so close to social change then giving up after a few successful efforts by the media & Government to deface the movement by using Mansons and other Hippie representatives as propaganda examples on how they were nothing but unpatriotic, communist, satanic, inhuman diseases. and in turn the baby boomers become the ultimate, conforming, Yuppie hypocrites a generation has ever produced.

Uncertainty certainty. I wish there was someone I could ask for advice, someone who wouldn’t make me feel like a creep for spilling my guts and trying to explain all the insecurities that have plagued me for oh, about 25 years now. I wish someone could explain to me why exactly I have no desire to learn anymore why I used to have so much energy and the need to search for miles and weeks for anything new and different. Excitement. I was once a magnet for attracting new offbeat personalities who would introduce me to music and books of the obscure and I would soak it into my system like a rabid sex crazed junkie hyperactive mentally retarded toddler who’s just had her first taste of sugar.
I tried heroine the first time in 1987 in aberdeen and proceeded to use it about 10 more times from 87 to 90. When I got back from our second European Tour with Sonic Youth I decided to use heroine on a daily basis because an ongoing stomach ailment that I had been suffering from for the past five years had literally taken me to the point of wanting to kill myself. There were many times that I found myself literally incapicitated in bed for weeks vomiting and starving. So I decided I feel like a junky as it is so I may as well be one. After the last European tour I vowed to never go on tour again unless my condition is either masked or cured. I did heroine for about one month then found myself realizing that I wouldn’t be able to get drugs when we go to Australia and Japan so Courtney and I detoxed in a hotel room.
I went to Australia and of course the stomach pain started immediately. We had to cancel a few shows because the pain left me immobile doubled up on the bathroom floor vomiting water and blood. I was liter-ally starving to death. My weight was down to about 110 lbs. I was taken to a doctor at the advice of my management who gave me physeptone. The pills seemed to work better than anything else Ive tried. A bit later on the tour I read the fine print on the bottle it read: “physeptone contains methadone.” Hooked again. We survived Japan but by that time opiates and touring had started to take their toll on my body. And I wasn’t in much better health than when I was off of drugs. I returned home to find that Courtney had gotten hooked again so we checked into a detox center for 2 weeks. She recovered. I instantly regained that familiar burning nausea and decided to either kill myself or stop the pain. I bought a gun but chose drugs instead. I stayed on heroine until one month before Frances due date. Again I checked into a detox center and went through 2 months of the slowest process I have ever witnessed in recovery 60 days of starvation and vomiting.

Courtney, when I say I love you I am not ashamed, nor will anyone ever ever come close to intimidating persuading, etc me into thinking otherwise. I wear you on my sleeve. I spread you out wide open with the wing span of a peacock, yet all too often with the attention span of a bullet to the head. I think its pathetic that the entire world looks upon a person with patience and a calm demeanor as the desired model citizen. Yet theres something to be said about the ability to explain ones self with a toned down, tune deaf tone. And I will say it: I am what they call the boy who is slow. How I metamorphosized from hyperactive to cement is for lack of a better knife to the throat uh, annoying, aggrevating, confusing as dense as cement. Cement holds no other minerals. You can’t even find fools gold in it. Its strictly man made and youve taught me it’s ok to be a man and in the classic mans world I parade you around proudly like the ring on my finger which also holds no mineral. Love Kurt

Story Of The Blues

Gary Moore(1952-2011)

Gary Moore isi incepe cariera muzicala in 1969 cu trupa Skid Row (Irlanda) .

Desi Gary Moore s-a facut cunoscut de-a lungul anilor in mai multe proiecte muzicale cantand hard rock, jazz sau blues, adevarata lovitura a dat-o in ’90 cu Still Got The Blues .

Succesul a continuat pana in ’97 cand a lansat “Dark Days”, un album cu mai putine influente blues si drept urmare,  fanii s-au declarat dezamagiti.  Dupa aceasta “cadere”, Moore revine in forta in 2001 cu albumul “Back To The Blues”  .

Ultimul album semnat Gary Moore a fost lansat in 2008, “Bad For You Baby”.

Asadar, pe 6 februarie a luat sfarsit The Story Of The Blues…oricat am incerca sa credem ca “va trai mereu in sufletele noastre” .

Touching :)

Dupa toate succesele avute in toata lumea, in 1970 McCartney paraseste band-ul .

Keith Moon (1946-1978)

September 15, 2010

Keith J. Moon was an english musician,  the drummer of the rock band The Who. He joined the group in 1965 replacing Doug Sandom. At this time, the band needed a better drummer to get a recording contract .

He was known as Moon The Loon because of his destructive and irresponsible lifestyle .

Ringo Starr, Moon’s friend, was seriously concerned about his lifestyle and told Moon that if he kept going the way he was, he would eventually kill himself.  Moon simply replied : “Yeah, I know.”

Rock legend, Alice Cooper remembers that Moon used to dress up as the Pope just for fun. Cooper also said that he is not sure he ever knew  the real Keith Moon or  if there was one.

A famous episode in Moon’s life happened during a tournament in California where after a drug dose he passed out on stage.  Then, the guitarist,  Pete Townshend asked the audience:  “Can anyone play the drums? I mean somebody good.” And the concert continued with an audience member.

Keith Moon died in 1978  because of a lethal combination of drugs.

He is mentioned in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the greatest of all rock and roll drummers.

Brian Jones

January 5, 2010

Brian Jones was an English musician and one of the founding members of the rock band The Rolling Stones.

In 1961, in London,  he met Alexis Korner, Jack Bruce,  Ian Stewart, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards  and Charlie Watts and formed The Rolling Stones band. Even if Mick Jagger was the singer, the real leader of the band was Jones. He arranged the concerts, negotiated the payments and promoted the band.  Because of that the relations between the band members were quite tense.

In 1967, at The Monterrey Pop Festival, he gets to meet Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and Dennis Hopper. The Rolling Stones has become a very famous band.

Like other rock singers of his time, Jones had a troubled life. In May 1967 he was arrested for drug use. The authorities found on him marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Because of the tensions between him and two other members of the group, Jagger and Richards, Jones was removed from the band. Brian Jones appeared for the last time in concert with the band in December 1968.

In June 1969 the other members of the band informed him that Rolling Stones will continue without him.  A month later, he was found dead in his pool house.

In 2000, his girlfriend,  Anna Wohlin,  declared  that Jones was killed by one of his employees , Frank Thorogood. It seems that Thorogood confessed the crime before he died.

Brian Jones was very good friend with other musicians like John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison and Steve Marriott.

In his memory, Pete Townshend wrote the poem:  A Normal Day For Brian, The Man Who Died Every Day and Jim Morrison wrote the poem:  Ode to L.A. While Thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased.

I used to play my guitar as a kid wishing that I could be like him
But today I changed my mind I decided that I don’t want to die
But it was a normal day for Brian
Rock and Roll’s that way
It was a normal day for Brian, a man who died everyday.

Cliff Burton (1962-1986)

December 28, 2009

Cliff Burton was an American musician, best known as the bassist of American thrash metal band Metallica. He joined the band in 1982, replacing Ron McGovney.

His style of singing was unusual for a heavy metal drummer. He played the guitar using only his fingers. This allowed him to play more strings simultaneously. He was different from other metal or progressive metal bass players, who preferred the bass with five or six strings, because he only played bass with four strings.

Being a piano player, Burton has used his vast knowledge of music theory to improve the band’s music and style.

According to James Hetfield, Cliff was the most respected member of the band

During a tour in Europe  Burton died in an accident on which the band bus overturned.   Many sources have confirmed the hypothesis that the driver was drunk. The accident happened in Sweden.

Burton’s body was buried in San Francisco. At the ceremony was sung  “Orion” from the album “Master of Puppets”. After this sad event, Metallica has not played live “Orion” to the full until November 2006.

Remembering Jimi Hendrix

December 28, 2009

Jimi Hendrix was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is often considered to be the greatest electric guitarist in the history of  rock music and one of the most important and influential musicians .

In his  book, “Clapton: The Autobiography”,  rock legend Eric Clapton talks about a sad event spent in 1970:  the death of Jimi Hendrix:

“He had this enormous gift and a fantastic technique, like that of someone who spent all day playing and practicing, yet he didn’t seem that aware of it. I also got to see the playboy in him. He loved to spend all night hanging out, getting drunk or stoned, and when he did pick up the guitar, it was very throwaway to him, as if he didn’t take himself too seriously.”

Jim Morrison

December 25, 2009

I discovered Jim Morrison in a book written by Vintila Corbul “Death, Ecstasy and Rock n Roll”. Book whose main character was a boy that would become a musical genius. A follower of Morrison. To be honest, I didn’t like the book but Morrison distracted me with the influence that he had on the character . I began to read, to listen and to quote him. Then I felt guilty because I kept him buried in music stores, magazines, Internet or books. He was everywhere … Might sound odd but it was like when the person you always dreamed of was right next to you and when you finally discover it, you wonder: “How could I be so blind?”. Only that this time wasn’t too late.

Jim Morrison was an American composer and lyricist, the vocalist and the leader of the psychedelic rock band The Doors. The band name comes from a William Blake’s famous verse: “I have left open the doors of perception”. Morrison was also passionate about philosophy and literature and he wrote poetry under the influence of Arthur Rimbaud and William Blake.

Jim was seen by his fans as a kind of god or a spiritual leader. As a result he took the name of  “Lizard King”. His lifestyle with the band became  heavily influenced by alcohol and drugs. In 1969  Morrison appeared drunk on stage in front of 13,000 spectators. Following this gesture, he was arrested on charges of exhibitionism and alcoholism. He was sentenced to six months of  hard labor despite the fact that he died before the appeal and retrial of the case.

His death (probably a drug overdose) was established as a result of a heart attack and no autopsy was done.

Jim Morrison was buried in the cemetery Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.

His grave became a pilgrimage place and is still visited by hundreds of fans that leave many memories such as tickets, graffiti, cigarettes, condoms.

“There are things known and there are things unknown. And in between are the doors.”

I recommend you :  “The Doors – The Movie”.

About Kurt Cobain

December 24, 2009

I choose to write about Kurt Cobain because he was my teenage hero.  And remains one of my idols.  I always thought that good music started with The Beatles and ended on April 4, 1994.  Though I know that heroes don’t actually die .  🙂

So Kurt was an American songwriter and musician, best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the legendary rock band Nirvana.  He was born in Aberdeen, Washington and, apparently,   he had a very unhappy childhood.  Known for his abrasive and disturbing lyrics and voice record Cobain is considered one of the most influential rock singers of all time.

Cobain formed in 1986 the band Nirvana, with Krist Novoselic.  In 1991 he released the video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from the album “Nevermind” which marked the changing preferences of those who listened in the ’80 glam metal, arena rock  and dance-pop  by grunge and alternative rock. The media awarded that  song into “anthem-of-a-generation”  and Cobain in “Spokesman” of the Generation X  contrary to his will.

On April, 1994  Kurt Cobain was found dead at his home from  Seattle. His death was declared suicide but the subject is still controversial one.
